The ferry ride was very bumpy as the water was choppy and we saw some pretty large waves. It was also extremely windy and cold.
The ride was beautiful, though, so we enjoyed the scenery and neither of us got seasick.
Upon our arrival we boarded our tour bus for the day. For our first stop, we had to pick up more people who had flown to the island instead of riding the ferry. Getting up so early had us both exhausted so we fell asleep for a good portion of the morning ride. We woke up in time to find out that the normal road used for the tour and one of the only roads on the island was undergoing construction and had a huge hole in it.
The ride was rather bumpy and I don't think charter buses are made for driving on muddy roads, but we made it through with no problems!
Our first official stop was Seal Bay. The gift store had many exciting gifts, our favorite...
We walked down a trail to the beach where the seals were laying, under strict instructions to stay far away from any sort of wildlife.
We still managed to get in a picture with the seals, even if we couldn't be close.
Next it was back to the bus and on to lunch. Immediately after lunch was a birds of prey presentation.
Bart was our presenter. One of the birds bit his hand while he was feeding them but he managed to make it through the presentation regardless. Below are kookaburras sitting on his arm.
He also had a barn owl that was trained to hop on everyone's knees.
The wedge-tailed eagle liked having his head scratched.
We were racing the clouds to the Remarkable Rocks. For us it wasn't a matter of if we would get wet, it was when.
The rocks were sculpted by the wind and waves from years of storms. They were like giant sculptures that you could climb on, under, and through.
Sadly, the rain was catching up so we had to hurry back to the bus...we didn't quite make it in time.
The next stop was Admiral's Arch. The actual arch wasn't immediately visible, and for a while we wondered where it was.
We did see a lot of New Zealand Fur Seals, whose resting place was located in and around the arch.
We finally found the arch, right under us! We actually crossed over it as we walked on the boardwalk.
More seals were hiding under it as well.
A view of the arch from far away.
The Remarkable Rocks were still visible from Admiral's Arch.
That was our last stop on Kangaroo Island before getting back on the ferry. We finally saw kangaroos in the wild as we were riding, but our pictures were all unsuccessful.
